County, City, and EDD discuss FY 2012 economic development goals12/20/2011 |
Grenada, Miss. (December 16, 2011) – The Grenada Economic Development District (the EDD) met with representatives from the County Board of Supervisors and the City of Grenada to provide a detailed update of the goals accomplished since its inception in 2009. The EDD board, the County, the City and a number of community stakeholders came together in 2008 and 2009 to finalize an economic development strategic plan that was to be implemented by the soon to be hired staff of the EDD. In August of 2009, Pablo Diaz was hired as Grenada’s first economic development director to put into practice the strategic plan and implement a successful economic development program in the community. At the meeting, Pablo Diaz detailed the goals and objectives set out in the strategic plan two years ago and informed the group that all of the goals had been met in less time than it was originally proposed.
Diaz said, “In addition to expeditiously reaching the goals set out in the EDD strategic plan, we have been able to create and retain hundreds of jobs, stop the closing of the railroad, and have made many advances to continue to position Grenada as one of the most serious competitors for economic development projects in the State.”
The EDD represents the City and County for economic development projects and has worked closely with them to secure job creation in Grenada County through attraction, expansion and retention of jobs. Pablo Diaz added, “The strategic plan is a very important document that guides our efforts for economic development. We take this document seriously and we also understand that it is a document that can and should evolve as time passes. We are proud that the City and County supported our efforts in the last two years and helped us met the goals they set out for Grenada. It is important that the City and County continue to be on the same page with regards to economic development so that we can continue to move forward and create jobs.
The Grenada County Economic Development District (the EDD) is the official economic development entity for Grenada County and a MDA partner. Pablo Diaz is Executive Director of the Grenada County Economic Development District.
